This document is was the Research Proposal part of my Ph.D. Comprehensive-II requirement at the University of Waterloo.

Working title: Quantum Algorithms and Lower Bounds in the Hamiltonian oracle model

Introduction and Background

Over 15 years ago, John Preskill proposed that the black hole information loss problem “may well presage a revolution in fundamental physics”[1]. Since Preskill's paper, much has been learned about quantum information.
